Players are expected to attend both tryout sessions as scheduled (7th and 8th grade may only have just one session on Sunday). If for some reason your player will miss one of the tryout sessions, please let us know as soon as possible. If your player only attends one tryout session, we can only evaluate what we see that session. We offer 2 days to ensure an off day can be overcome.
Tips for success:
-
Hustle and Paying Attention. The facilitator will explain every concept and drill ahead of time. It's important for your player to absorb this information and employ it quickly.
-
Effort, not perfection. Shots will be missed, passes will be dropped and mistakes will be made. This is normal at every grade and level. Have your player give it their best for the entire session and don't dwell on past mistakes.
-
Nutrition and hydration. Come to tryouts hydrated and rested but realize the early morning sessions will involve running, sprinting… a huge breakfast of scrambled eggs and chocolate milk might not be the best choice.
-
Gear Up.
-
Please have your players wear athletic sneakers and clothing that allows them to move freely and safely throughout tryout activities. Jeans, sweats, or otherwise stiff or stuffy clothing can become a bit uncomfortable and distracting to players.
-
Please have your player bring a water bottle and a basketball to tryouts. All grades use 28.5" balls.
-
Remember, no old Skyline uniforms, a tryout pinnie will be handed out on Day 1. Please ensure your player wears the same pinnie for both days of tryouts. At the end of Day 2, they will hand it back in (7th and 8th grade at the end of day 1). Tryout results will be posted by pinnie number so make sure you take a picture or write it down.
